To date, it seems as if Donald Trump has launched more attacks upon trans youth — less than .001 of the population — than on any other group in American society. The president has taken aim at identity documents like passports, educational protections under Title IX, bathroom access, participation in sports, and, most egregiously, gender-affirming care for trans youth up to age 19. Despite every major medical association endorsing this type of care, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also came out against gender-affirming care for minors in a confirmation hearing. There’s no shortage of adults’ opinions in recent weeks about how these kids should be living their lives — so now, more than ever, it’s time to listen as they speak for themselves. Here, what 11 of them had to say about living under Trump 2.0, from their fears about access to medical care to dealing with transphobia from teachers and even parents.
